About the Raven

My name is Raven O’Fiernan, and I write books.  I write mainly in the fantasy and mystery genres, and my favorite books are those that blend the two genres.  I also consider myself a writer of darkness. Darkness, to me, is the idea that things are hidden, and that the truth isn’t what we see on the surface.  So, as a writer of darkness, I like to reveal the true nature of people.

One of the ways I do this is through the use of fear.  I think that fear is the root of evil.  When people are afraid, they react, often without thinking.  We all do this.  We want to remove the fear, so we think we have to destroy someone else, whoever is causing us to feel afraid.  Or we run away, hoping someone else will solve the problem.  Fight or flight.  In order to do otherwise, we have to see the world without the black lens of fear.  I also find fear far more interesting when it acts subtly:  it’s easy to be brave in the face of a stranger intruding in your house, but much more difficult to testify in court against someone who was once a friend or who has the support of the social community.

So far, I’ve written five books, and I’m finishing a sixth.  A seventh is on the verge of planning.  None are yet revised or published.  I live with my selfless parents and two demon cats, and hope, eventually, to have a place of my own.
